A little over three years ago, as DIna and I were getting things ready for our wedding, I made a crucial mistake that I regret so much to this day. Back then, photography was more of a hobby than anything else for me, so as I started researching for wedding photographers, I made the classic mistake of focusing on PRICE. What was I thinking??!?!!? I'll explain why I say this...

Of course, a budget is super important to most couples, especially during this crazy economy. We were trying to stay at a certain budget, but we also wanted our wedding to be a beautiful, amazing day not just for us, but also for our family and guests. We found a dream location/venue, we had some yummy food, lots of colorful flowers, etc.etc. But when it came to finding a photographer, I have to admit....I mostly thought with my wallet!

IF ONLY...I could go back and focus more of the budget on our wedding photographer :( Don't get me wrong, we had an "ok" photographer. He took plenty of photos, I bought the disk of the hi-resolution images, he got them to us quickly....but EACH and EVERY time I look through them, I get so annoyed at myself! Memories fade, people forget what the food tasted like, what the flowers arrangements looked like, how cool the dj was,....the ONLY thing anybody has to remember from their wedding day is the PHOTOS!

So, if you or anybody you know is getting cheap-o about their wedding photog, remind them of this. I wish someone had brought this to our attention back then. We learned the hard way :( Were not saying to spend tons and tons of money, especially if you dont have it, but what we are saying is that usually, if you spend as much as you can on the wedding photorapher, you'll probably be happier with that decision in the long run.

I thought it would be cool to post a few links to a few big-name wedding photographers that we would have hired to shoot our wedding.....if only.....

These are the photographers that made me realize that wedding photography can be breath-taking, extremely creative, unique, fun, happy, real, and very profitable. I believe his understanding and "use of light" is the best in the business. Not to mention his great processing style and awesome compositions...

This guy is from Seattle and if I could go back and choose someone to shoot our wedding.....this is the man! He has an unbelievable way of "telling a story" with his imagery and does tons of series & sequence images that are great. The album previews he puts up on his blog look amazing. His work is very editorial, with great style and just a hip journalistic twist. Dina and I have agreed that next time he's in town, or next time were in Seattle, were gonna have him take our portraits :)

-seanflanigan.jpgOk, I'll post a few more on another day, this is taking too long and I have lots of work to do! But do yourself a favor and look through their photo galleries and blogs. Amazing amazing amazing work, be prepared to be inspired or be prepared to kick yourself for not hiring these guys!

I COMPLETELY agree with you. I think Pictures are the most important thing to focus on and spend money on when it comes to once in a lifetime events.. I would personally make that myTOP PRIORITY. And as amazing as those shots are, The ones you have taken are right up there Abraham. You would definitely be my photgrapher the day I find prince charming! You work is amazing Abraham and DINA ;-) The pictures you captured of my son... Are beyond amazing and priceless.

As I was looking through some video clips from our point-n-shoot camera, I found a couple of videos from Montserrat, Spain. I thought I'd share them just in case anybody reading this is thinking of going near Barcelona. About 45 minutes from the city, resides this amazing little city that seems to grow from within the rocky mountains that surround it. The drive out there is beautiful but the view from the city plaza is something that is worth the half-day excursion out there. Photos and video can only give a hint of the amazing-ness of this place!

Btw, you can see the original post from Montserrat on the old blog.
I indicated with a blue arrow on the sepia-toned photo where we were at when we took these photos and videos...check it out.....

Here's a few photos from Montserrat that I had not posted on the old blog.

I was just experimenting with a few different post-processing techniques this morning. The two colored images are faded with a blue-ish tone, me like! Still messing around with the black-n-white conversion, trying to make it look like black-n-white film used to look, especially paying attention to the grain so it wont look too "digital".

I love it when I can get some cool light sources in unexpected areas, like a parking garage. Not to mention that these images were shot with my now favorite lens, a 35mm 2.0 canon lens, which is tiny, lightweight, plastic and only costs like $200. Yes, maybe the "L" series of that lens is even better, but it also costs about $1k more! For a lightweight vacation lens, that you dont even have to worry about scratching, breaking or whatever, this little lens is just right....

That is how tall Dina is when she puts on her new kicks. Better said, her new pumps.

A while ago I remember my wifey mentioning she needed black heels; wait, wait....she didnt "need" new shoes, she has a bunch of barely used shoes, so I guess she "wanted" new black heels :)

So, as I was wandering the mall the other day, thinking and thinking of what she might like....I bumped into these LAMB heels that I thought were just the right compensation for putting up with yours truly for the last 3 years!
